I've never needed welfare or parental help, although I suppose I could have used it on occasion. Perhaps you've never known someone who is disabled, chronically ill, retarded, or in other ways disadvantaged. I don't feel these people should be ignored and allowed to suffer and die - some don't have the option of a caring family. Unfettered capitalism makes no provision for these people, since they provide it no value. I don't think the able should be subsidized, but when I see a homeless schizophrenic babbling to no one, I don't tell him to get a job.
