What a travesty: "Bush, Now to Allow an Investigation About WMDs"
What a pathetic betrayal of justice and the rule of law.
Pathetic that the White House could get still get away with headlines like this one. Pathetic that the GE-Viacom-Tribune Company-Murdoch-Hollinger-Disney-Clear Channel-Sinclair-Washington Post-New York Times corporate press would let him get away with this.

Since when do we have a defendant in America pick his own jury?
Of course, many of the paid press and sharpie corporate crony CEO's don't for a moment believe Bush wants to REALLY investigate the WMD lies, Valerie Plame treason, Halliburton, 9/11, the theft of the election 2000, the possibility of RICO violations among Scalia, Rehnquist and Thomas, military lapses, mistreatment of veterans, manipulation of and lies about the deficit, etc. These men and women who benefit from the gluttonous greed of Bush tax policies know that junior's just a stooge and that he's guilty as heck on all accounts, but he's their stooge. And if you are a multi-billion dollar corporate crony Bush "Pioneer" or mega-news media business, you want Bush to stay bought, not to be impeached.
So, the laughable notion that Bush wants an investigation that would lead to the revelation of the crimes, malfeasance, lies and incompetence of his own administration is all the more laughable because the press pretends to take him seriously.
Ask the four brave women who have been challenging Bush about his effort to obstruct, obfuscate and end the 9/11 Commission before it can get to the bottom of things. The latest twist on that tactic is that the White House is refusing to allow the 9/11 Commission to be given its own notes taken on Bush's briefing paper about 9/11:
The White House, already embroiled in a public fight over the deadline for an independent commission's investigation of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, is refusing to give the panel notes on presidential briefing papers taken by some of its own members, officials said this week.
The standoff has prompted the 10-member commission to consider issuing subpoenas for the notes and has further soured relations between the Bush administration and the bipartisan panel, according to sources familiar with the issue. Lack of access to the materials would mean that the information they contain could not be included in a final report about the attacks, several officials said.
"We're having discussions on this almost hourly or at least daily," said the commission's vice chairman Lee H. Hamilton, a former Democratic congressman from Indiana. "We retain all of our rights to gain the access we need. . . . This is a priority item for us to resolve, and we are working to resolve it."
The disagreement is the latest obstacle to face the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, which is racing to complete its work by a May 27 deadline after months of fighting over access to government documents. The commission has asked that the deadline be pushed back at least two months, but the White House and leading congressional Republicans oppose that idea.
Such a postponement would mean releasing the potentially damaging commission report on July 26, in the middle of the presidential campaign. Legislation to be introduced next week in the Senate would extend the commission's deadline until next January, avoiding the election altogether. [LINK]
We refer you to past BuzzFlash editorials that provide evidence of ample warning being provided to Bush about a 9/11 incident. What was his response in the summer of 2001? He went vacationing for a month at his Crawford Ranch.
Bush is "forced" into an "investigation" of WMDs? Come on now! What a tragic farce for this nation.
Is this the kind of investigation that Bush promised about the outing of a CIA operative? The kind of investigation, like all other Bush administration whitewashes, that stalls and stalls and stalls in order to hide the truth, because of what it will reveal, we suspect, about the betrayals of the Bush administration. Ask Valerie Plame or Joe Wilson. For months, Bush didn't even care that two of his staffers outed a CIA operative specializing, get this, in finding out who is trafficking in Weapons of Mass Destruction. That's right Bush sanctioned and condoned his staff undermining the very individual who was trying to find out who was dealing in WMDs that might threaten our national security.
Could there be any deeper betrayal of America than the outing of the person who specialized in the very issue -- illicit WMDs -- that the Bush Cartel claimed was the reason that we needed to invade Iraq, and is the focus of this latest Soviet-style phony sham "investigation"?
Yet, Bush did nothing. When the Washington Post ran an article, weeks late, about the outing in a Novak column, Bush said he wanted to get to the bottom of this. But he refused to ask any of his staffers if they had betrayed American and undercut Bush's efforts to rid us of threats of WMDs. Instead he turned the "investigation" over to John "KGB" Ashcroft, a toady Bush loyalist whose idea of the law is that something is prosecutable if the Bush administration wants it to be prosecutable and that it's not prosecutable if it will hurt the Bush administration -- the national interest be damned. John "Loyalty-to-Bush-before-the-Constitution" Ashcroft's DOJ gave the White House 24-hours extra time to turn over the Valerie Plame documents and then let the White House counsel vet them first! That's what amounts to an investigation under the White House.
For weeks and weeks, the investigation went no where, until Ashcroft inexplicably announced he had a conflict of interest and appointed a U.S. Attorney from Chicago to carry on. Never mind that Ashcroft had several conflicts of interest from the beginning, not to mention that he owes his butt to Bush for appointing him AG after Ashcroft embarrassingly lost his senate re-election to a dead man. The short and skinny was -- and is -- that Bush wants to PROTECT the leakers of the CIA operative, not find them, Good Lord! Frankly, anyone who thinks otherwise is: 1) a voter for a "moron white man Republican" or 2) a moron themselves.
(By the way, a "moron white man Republican" is BuzzFlash's new phrase that is an adaptation of the 'ol Texas phrase "a yellow dog Democrat." That was a Texas Democrat who would vote for a Democrat for any office, even if he were a yellow dog. Well, the "moron white man Republican" voter is someone who will vote for a self-described GOP white Christian male who code words his racism and anti-feminism, even if he is a moron, liar and endangers American security.)
The point here is that Bush wants to bury the truth, not get to the bottom of it. He wants to protect the guilty -- including himself, Cheney and Rove -- not unmask them and subject them to impeachment and prosecution.
As far as the notion of a WMD "investigation," the very idea is a farce. Why does there need to be an investigation of what many Bush administration officials have already admitted? Wolfowitz, among others, has already stated that the Bush Cartel went with the WMD scare because otherwise they couldn't rally the nation to war. Cheney is documented as having spent unprecedented time at the CIA getting analysts to slant findings to make it appear as if Iraq had WMDs and was an imminent threat. Rumsfeld set up a DOD pro-war propaganda department, heavily influenced by Perle and Feith, to stitch together a case for war, not to offer up the truth. What is there to investigate?
They created falsehoods; they disseminated them to the stenographic mainstream press; and Bush and company sold them as truths. Just watch the dazzlingly revealing documentary "Truth Uncovered."
This is an administration that champions the expression: "If you repeat a lie five times, it becomes the truth."
It's time to end these phony "investigations" that are just cover-ups pretending to be fact-finding missions. It's long past time to give an ounce of credibility to another attempt at a deceiving headline "investigation." It's time for impeachment.
It won't happen, of course. Tom "The Exterminator" DeLay and Bill Frist -- and their band of merry cohorts -- could end up being all too exposed by an impeachment. And that is so beyond the pale of the lock-step hypocritical GOPs capabilities that one can only demand it because it is the right thing for justice, democracy, truth, and the Constitution and America. But not one of those five concepts really means anything to the Republican Congress.
So, we won't have an impeachment anytime soon. We will have another whitewash paid for with our tax dollars. It's another case of the Bush defendants picking jurors who will exonerate them. Remember when Bush tried to appoint Henry Kissinger, a GOP heart of darkness covert specialist in black bag diplomatic jobs, to head the 9/11 Commission?
The Republicans used institutional process to derail a Democratic President for the sole reason that they wanted to assume power and he was in their way. They had no evidence, so they helped to "create" a crime through the illegal process of "framing" a President of the United States.
The Democrats, even when they were in control of the Senate, were (and are) extremely timid about using institutional process to investigate real crimes against the nation, corporate malfeasance, and the congruence of the two in the Bush/Cheney administration.
If democracy is restored in November and a Democrat is elected President, let there be no more declarations such as "we will not pursue legal investigations of the former administration because we need to get that period behind us." No, No, No!
The Democrats, if they reassume power in the White House, need to investigate, prosecute and try. No more letting Bush the Senior get away with the Iran-Contra pardons, Gerald Ford with the Nixon pardon, Nixon and Kissinger with the disruption of the 1968 Paris Peace Talks, the October surprise of 1980, the theft of election 2000, BCCI, the real relationship between Noriega and Bush the Senior, the coordination of the efforts to impeach Bill Clinton that may be prosecutable under the RICO act, the open relationship between Federal and Supreme Court judges and Bush Administration officials while administration cases appear before them, congressional redistricting thefts, Halliburton, Enron, etc.
No more.
If a Democratic comes into power, despite the efforts of the Republicans to once again steal the election, it will be time for justice.
The Democratic President must then declare, if asked about potential investigations of high crimes and misdemeanors committed by the Bush administration, including Bush and Cheney: "No one is above the rule of law. Let the chips fall where they may."
Otherwise the cancer of Republican betrayals of the nation and secret, potentially illegal actions will continue unabated -- and the GOP Congressional/Federal Bench triangulation will proceed with the Clinton impeachment strategy all over again, only with a new Democratic Presidential target. Nothing will stop them but jail time.
Because they are power hungry Republicans before they are Americans. Their allegiance is to the Republican Party and not to the Constitution of America.
For the sake of this great democracy, and the blood shed by the founders of this nation and soldiers who have died for it for more than 225 years, this type of cancerous, cynical, betrayal must not stand. |
