if we spent NOTHING on the military we'd be running a surplus. The current Bush budget has military spending underfunded at 400 billion. Our economic competitors don't have to support a military, consequently they have no income taxes. You want no taxes? Cut the military.

The next big budget buster is social security. I'm all for cutting that one. But Bush actually increased it by 560 billion. The system is already broke.

Finally, way down on the list are these smaller budgetary items like NEA funding and the like. Welfare is such SMALL POTATOES compared to corporate pork and military it isn't even worth discussing. If budget hawks really want to balance the budget then homeland security, military and entitlements have to be cut.
