if we spent NOTHING on the military we'd be running a surplus.

And of course that surplus would make the world a safer place just like it did during the Clinton years when they merely extrapolated the metrics of our unsustainable bubble economy as far out into the future as they could for crass political reasons while allowing Saddam Hussein to survive and use multilateralism to his advantage, Al Qaeda to grow and actualize their murderous potential, and North Korea to continue to develop not only their nuclear program but also their long-distance missile program, etc.
