There are some horse farms south of Annapolis, and a few (mostly sold off, but not all) around where I used to live, on the Broadneck Peninsula, towards the Bay, to the north. Centreville, of course, is in the middle of the Virginia piedmont, leading up to the Blue Ridge, and a lot of estates are in the area. It is horse country too. In fact, both that area and the area south of Annapolis continue the upper class tradition of fox hunting, which I find a bit ghastly.
Since moving to Bethesda, I had to deal with the Beltway more often. It mainly sucks during rush hour, which in Washington lasts from about 4 to 7 at its worst. Generally, the outer loop, in my area heading towards Northern Virginia primarily, is the worst in the morning, and the inner loop, towards Baltimore and Prince George's County, is a parking lot in the evening. If you are on the opposing loop, it is usually not so bad. Also, it is worse in my area, because it has more curves, slowing traffic down. If you use it during the day, it is not so bad, at least around here. Of course, on the eastern side, 95 merges with the Beltway, and dumps on too much long distance traffic, including trucks, and the Wilson Bridge, crossing the Potomac, is too narrow, which can make a bottleneck at odd times. Overall, the Beltway needs to be widened, it has much more traffic than it was originally engineered for......... |
