Don't become complacent in your hope that Kerry will beat Bush. The Repubs have not started their campaign as yet, instead they're waiting until they know exactly who the opponent will be. I'm sure useful information re Sen Kerry's past is being accumulated by Repubs so they will deluge airways with negative campaign fodder if he indeed does become the Dem nominee. That's when the polls will give a more accurate indication of Kerry's chances against Bush. Right now, only the Dems side has been displayed. The tables could dramatically turn when both sides have entered the fray.
