It wasn't just this. I have a video of the entire speech, or at least most of it. Dean's speech was just fine, including the "screaming" part of it. He was undoubtedly in a lot of pain and sensed his troops were too, and like any decent leader he gave his people a rallying cry. Hey, I saw the thing, alright? It was all a lighthearted celebration amidst defeat. By the time Dean was finished, his folks were genuinely cheering and eager to fight again. I can't stand Dean, but it is clear to me that by destroying the context and meaning of his speech, the guy was shafted by his own party and their media. I am not being partisan. The GOP likely does the same thing in its own way, though I have never seen it do anything as blatant and as despicable as what the Dems have just done against Dean. I think what I am struggling with here is my own amazement and surprise. It seems just when I think politicians can become no more cynical than they are, they do something to show even greater contempt for and disregard of the intellect of the American public. And the American public seems ever willing to prove the cynicism is most justified.
