re: opposition to world government today is like opposition to slavery in 1750

Until there is a world government that abolishes war, relations between nations (and therefore between the inhabitants of those nations) will be based on force. The Strong will take what they want, and bully the Weak. And the Strong will justify this, by convincing themselves they are inherently better than the Others, in some way (Chosen People, True Religion, more civilized, etc.)

In slavery, relations between masters and slave were based on force. The masters used the bodies of the slaves, in any way they wanted. And they justified this, by convincing themselves that slaves were not really human (blacks had no souls, were culturally/racially inferior, etc.)

It's the same rationalizations (the Others are inferior), the same methods (violence), and the same results (a lot of unnecessary death, and a general brutalization of both slaves and masters, victors and vanquished).

Take the excuses made for slavery in 1750, and simply substitute the word "war" for "slavery", and "conquered people" for "slaves" and you have all the excuses for war commonly used today. For example:

Slavery has happened in all nations at all times in history. It is part of the human condition. Only sentimental utopians think it's possible to abolish slavery.

He is better off now, than before we made him a slave. We give him better housing, more food, teach him the True Religion. So it's all for his own good, and we are noble people for doing this to him, even if he doesn't realize it.

The masters have made rules for the treatment of slaves, which make slavery a civilized and acceptable practice. A few masters may break these rules, but that's not the general practice.

Slavery may be evil, but there are so many powerful economic interests that benefit from it, you'll never abolish it.

Slaves are inherently violent and undisciplined. You can't reason with them, they can only be controlled by force, or the world will collapse into chaos.

Lots of people in the Bible practiced slavery, so God must think it's a good idea.

Slavery is not evil, because lots of free people are treated worse than slaves.

My nation can't give up the practice of slavery and slave-trading, because other nations will continue to do it, and have an advantage over us.

Some people won't do what they should do, unless someone else stands over them with a whip. I know who those people are, and what they should do, so I should hold the whip.
