Gus, I also know that Kruschev lost power for backing down to Kennedy. In fact, the Cubans kept their missiles and the missiles remained in Turkey. The showdown was the key point. In an era of ICBMs and nuke subs, where missiles are located isn't all that important. It's who has to back down during the confrontation.
