AO MOSENERGO's Oktyabrskiye Grids started to construct two new substations

AO MOSENERGO's division Oktyabrskiye Grids started to construct two new modern substations – a 220/10 kV substation Narvskaya and a 110/20/10 kV substation Chkalovskaya. The two facilities are expected to become operational in December 2004.

Substation Narvskaya will supply power to municipal residential area Khovrino, while Chkalovskaya – to Khodynskoye Pole area. The construction of the two new substations was ordered due to stable 5% power consuption growth in Moscow region. In accordance with the Housing Program that was adopted by the Moscow Government, new residential areas will be built in the Northern District of Moscow which would lead to sharp increase in total power load in this area.

These substations were designed by Mosenergoproekt, AO MOSENERGO MOSENERGO's branch. Both substations will be equipped with the latest equipment including sulphur distribution switches. At Narvskaya, AO MOSENERGO will install two 63,000 kVÀ transformers made by a Togliatty plant AO Transformator. Transformers for Chkalovskaya substation will be manufactured at a Moscow plant Elektrozavod and will be more powerful – 80,000 kVÀ each.

New substations will be closed-type facilities as all equipment will be placed inside the building while noise reduction devices will make the operation efectively noiseless. Both substations will be controlled through an automated monitoring system making it possible to remotely operate the facilities.

In contrast to most substations, Chkalovskaya will transform 110 kV curent into 20 kV and 10 kV (usually, substations produce 6 kV or 10 kV). Such technology has been introduced only at Substation City that was put into operation in mid-June 2002. This allows to increase the power supply and substantially reduce electricity losses. As of today, 20 kV power transmission is widely used in all developed countries and is a perspective area of activtiy for the Moscow regional power system.

All expenditures on the construction of two substations are carried out by AO MOSENERGO. Narvskaya construction is expected to cost 550 mn rubles and Chkalovskaya – 850 mn rubles.

Last year, AO MOSENERGO put into operation two 220 kV substations – Shukolovo (Dmitrov district of Moscow region) and Akademicheskaya (in the south-eastern area of Moscow).
