The Spread - remember when a spread widens on an up tick, it usually means the MMs have sold short as the stock has moved up and the want to keep the bid lower in hopes of attracting sellers to cover the short at the lower price, and the higher ask indicates that they don't have much or any stock for sale, so they move the ask up discourage buying.

If you are trying to buy at these prices, put in a fill or kill ticket midway between the bid and the ask. Law requires they sell to you at least 2500 shares at the current ask or what ever quanity they have listed.
