Yep... it is a great website. I've read some super trip accounts on it. If you see any for the Barron River Canyon trip, definitely give them a view as it's an incredible section of river. It's just flatwater, but on the north side of the river, the canyon walls rise up about 500 feet I think...and they are covered with a great deal of bright orange lichen known as Xanthoria. Because the canyon wall is slightly undercut, the reflections from the waves dance around in the shadowy rockface for 100 or more feet up the wall. It's a terrific place to paddle through.

Yep.. deer flies can be the bane of a canoe trip. I've actually used those patches you stick on top of your hat and they do work great. I did know you could buy ready-made ones, but some people around these parts make their own out of various sticky flypapers, etc...

Last year, we had a lot of Dragonflies around...seemed more than usual. On quite a few trips, I had dragonflies hitch-hiking along on my canoe and swooping in to grab deerflies right off of my arm. Always nice to know someone is watching out for your best interests! (o:
