From the WalMart website:

We have WalMart here but I never go there. We shop at Costco and Shopper's Food Warehouse, and the prices are about as good and they're closer. WalMart is kind of downscale in quality compared to Costco. For office stuff, Staples and Office Depot, for hardware stuff, Home Depot. Yes, I am putting the mom and pop stores out of business, but they can't compete when it comes to prices, and for me, price is what matters.
On a slightly different but related theme, Consumer Reports rated the Behr brand of latex paint, which is sold by Home Depot, as higher quality than brands which are far more famous for quality, like Benjamin Moore. Also highly rated was Lowe's brand of paint. So being a cut-price chain store doesn't necessarily mean they sell garbage.
I do feel sorry for the people who lose their businesses, I don't have a heart of stone. But why pay double for half as much? That's crazy. |
