Why write a book entitled "the case for invading Iraq" and then later blame politicians? It came out in September, 2002, right in the middle of the debate, and I have no doubt whatsoever that he made a lot of money on it. He was on every TV show and every radio program, as the disinterested voice of reason. That boy needs to get his priorities straight.

Agreed. Even before Pollack began assessing the intelligence fiasco, his comments of "I know I said invade Iraq, but why now? we could wait a few years" gave me heartburn. CIA analysts can make their decisions in the absence of political realities. Politicians can't.

As some (was it Safire?) pointed out, it is extremely hard for analysis to ever spot a hollowed out, insane police state. Even supposing you have planted people high in the hierarchy, what could they tell you? "I know I don't have WMDs, but I hear the guy in the next town does." You can't ignore that, or assume your opponent is crazy or weak.
