Look, my argument isn't with you, it's with Bush & Co. It's with people that wrap themselves in the flag, while they sell out people that volunteer to serve their country. Maybe you are right, and the bulk of the American populace is still so retarded as to think some sort of warrior hero is the desirable "leader". Maybe that's even in our genes. After all, it worked for millennia. But the industrial revolution changed the rules. Even by the American civil war, the time of the warrior was passed. Only mass carnage was the result. This was more graphically exhibited by WWI and the machine gun - see the Battle of the Somme. With WWII, it was no longer massive losses of the military, but civilians as well - most vividly at the end with a mushroom cloud. The day people should be picking a "manly hero" as you phrase it, is past. Now, that's a prescription for disaster. What's needed is intelligence. Courage, sure. The ability to assess people, you bet. But above all intelligence. An intelligence that has spent a lifetime honing a moral core, to preclude the trap of the liberal hawks. An intelligence of sufficient magnitude to see the value of forever remaining humble, to know the difference between being resolute and being stubborn and to seek a strong disparate band of independently thinking advisors.
