Ref if that would be indeed true then how come disproportional number of Japanese and Chinese students are taking science classes?

I am afraid that taking Science Classes has nothing to do with creativity.

Creativity is having the capability to think outside the box, to look at the world in a new and a different light, and not going down the well trodden path. Creativity involves challenging the status quo, questioning conventional wisdom etc.

Taking science class does not make you creative. However the best scientists do have a creative mind, since scientific breakthroughs require thinking outside the box.

What I implied that was that the Japanese creativity is discouraged by the culture pressure to conform, and the fear of ridicule and loss of face. However the Japanese are very creative when they take several small steps ( which minimizes the risk of failure), but they will seldom take a big step or gamble.

The US mass media and its dumbed down culture, discourages children from taking an interest in Science.
