The only reason I can see for American agriculture not to be "foreign outsourced" along with everything else is transportation costs and "freshness" considerations. Before I left CA, the Avocado growers there were asking for protectionist measures against the much cheaper Mexican avocados coming in under NAFTA. For some reason, Americans seem to accept protectionist measures on agriculture much more easily than anything else. Maybe because we eat the stuff, and trust ours more than theirs.
