In science and engineering, cost is not a consideration.....literally every student gets a teaching or research assistantship that pays for all tuition plus a living stipend, which is probably about 18,000-20,000 these days. It's a great life and usually described as easier than the senior year of undergrad work. Everyone is in the same boat and comraderie is an important aspect of daily life. Lunch with your buddies and a few beers at 6:00 or 7:00 PM. Same thing all thru the weekend. Grad students are treated as and feel as if they are part of the faculty.

So no, cost is not the problem.....I'm talkng science and engineering now which, I believe, was the subject of the discussion.
