Which would have been other crimes against humanity to justify years later in terms of "but more people would have died if we didn't firebomb all those islands" etc.

LOL. And that means WHAT? That the notion of "crimes of war" and "crimes against humanity" does NOT exist if the other party attacks you first?

Wow. I have a feeling Iraqi resistance would love to hear this one. No doubt you guys started the war in this case. Do you think it would be OK if they nuked Manhattan in return? You know, it's a civilian target but it's OK because US started the war? :-)

Personally, I don't think so. But then again, I understand and believe in the validity of war crimes and crimes against humanity...
