personally I don't think that "net benefit" really exists. The net benefit we used to have from the obsolesense of certain jobs (grocery store checker, call center worker) was that other industries which were technology based were absorbing the functions. Now, we don't have that. We have cheap labor displacing new technologies, quality of service eroding (india call centers are not equal to US call centers) and loss of purchasing power to the former workers in the US. The increased gains are coming in the way of profits for HP and Dell who partake in this practice, but as Les has posted US corporate income tax is at a 30 year low so no real benefit to taxpayers for increased profits. The only increase is that same old trickle down from US executives at the top who are getting richer.
