At the risk of being flamed I'll post this.

Anyone who thinks this is a great time to be investing for the long term (trading? ok if you will recognize the last top) should read the chart on page 5 of this weeks Barrons.

Answer #1 Yes I know the baby boomers need to invest for retirement.

Answer #2 Yes I know inflation/interest rates are down and will never go up again. (Actually this could happen)

Answer #3 Yes I know the economy will never slip again and have a negative effect on earnings.

Answer #4 Yes I know that stocks can trade at outrageous valuations because it really is different this time.

But my question is. If stocks were so cheap and were long term buys in 1982 at the bottom of the last major cycle, what are they today?

You can't time the market by valuations. I shook my head from 1978 to 1982 wondering how stocks could stay so cheap. (Got very dizzy)

But I've been shaking my head for awhile now watching this market. Let's see what happens. Especially if we don't get that "blow off" top that all the smart guys will recognize.

I know, I know.........
