Bill,

I know, that cable modem will be the next step. It is likely as fast as promised, if you do not experience internal Internet bottlenecks.
Second, the back channel will be the telephone line. So when connected you pay twice, cable modem and phone.
The other reason for buying ISDN in Germany is, that they simplified the plug in boards to an extent, that an internal cable modem plus a S0 bus for your older equipement costs only $ 100. Including software for fax, answering, file transfer etc.
With channel bundeling and compression you reach about 300,000 baud.
The base fee is $ 5 higher than normal phone, but you get 3 extensions, two of which you can use in parallel, say filetransfer and telephone. That all for more or less the same cost.

Let us try to keep up with technology,

Wolfgang
