Honestly, I think they just don't mention it. I know for a fact that Muslim men with wives back home marry American women. Happened to a friend of the family, just like the Sally Field movie, "Not Without My Daughter." Female LSU student married a male Saudi LSU student, and when he graduated, they moved to SA and she found out that she was wife #4 and hated by the other women. According to my stepmother, the way the hatred was shown was that they made her clean all the toilets. Her family sent money and she climbed over the wall with her child or children and went to the American Embassy and came home. These days I don't think the American wives can get the kids out of the American Embassy anymore. I am sure that the Louisiana marriage license asks whether you've ever been married, so maybe that was the way out. She wasn't legally married to him under US law.
