Hi qdog,

Somehow I don't quite believe that the weight of the Nokia will hit 11 ounces; call it a hunch. I *could* get you a -92 Saab for under 50 000 FIM, though...
JGoren; actually those boring talk time and standby time issues are just one feature where TDMA phones seem to have an edge. I'm pleased to hear that Q-phone has the vibration option. But does it have incoming call recognition? And conference calling? And call waiting? And how easy is the short message use? I think I read an article that said these advanced digital phone functions that are so popular with GSM are lacking in CDMA phones. I read carefully the Q-phone specs, but failed to see any mention of them.
I'd like to see some comments about the recent huge infrastructure deals for TDMA in Taiwan, Australia, China, Brazil, Germany, Great Britain, New Zealand and Greece. To me it seems that the juggernaut is not slowing down and this is already the August -97. When exactly is CDMA finally expected to slow down TDMA? I would imagine that if this doesn't happen by -98 the gap becomes too great to bridge.
Big manufacturers like Siemens, Philips and Sony have evidently chosen to pour megabucks into GSM applications. Now Intel and Microsoft embrace GSM as well. Can the Qualcomm/Motorola/Samsung axis really fight that tide? If Motorola adopts the Nokia tack and also puts its main effort behind GSM (as it seems to be doing) CDMA cannot pull even simply because all the latest innovations are first implemented in GSM products. This is what ultimately killed Betamax... the greater variety of videos in VHS format, not the technical issues. So perhaps the standby time is ultimately a secondary issue compared to this.
