I haven't followed the entire discussion, but I saw American Spirit wrote the following (post 897):

"Estimates are for 600 billion this year, including war costs, and 850 billion or more next year."

The $600 Billion number is about right for the last 12 months (anyone can check this from the link I provided). Of course, the Federal Government's fiscal year is Sept to Sept, so any discussion of the size of the deficit has to be date specific.

As far as American Spirit's forecast of $850 Billion, that seems a little high. I've been projecting closer to $750 Billion. My projection is based on: $521 Billion estimate from the Govt + $160 Billion borrowed from Social Security + $50 Billion for Iraq / Afghanistan + misc (because the projections always seem to be low).

Still $850 Billion is possible.
