Contract awarded CUB....has SSPI Inside. Cubic Unveils Navy Communications Data Link System
PASADENA, Calif., Feb 05, 2004 (ASCRIBE NEWS via COMTEX) -- Cubic Defense Applications, the defense segment of Cubic Corporation, showcased its next-generation Navy Communications Data Link System at this week's Western Conference and Exposition in San Diego.
Cubic said the Navy CDLS is a high-speed data link that delivers time-critical imagery and intelligence data to surface ships.
"The system will revolutionize data link communications for U.S. and coalition forces, and ensure quick, accurate and secure distribution of intelligence data to the fleet," said Gerald Dinkel, president and CEO of Cubic Defense Applications.
"This will improve their ability to detect and track the movements of hostile -- or potentially hostile -- forces behind enemy lines,"
Cubic is developing the CDLS under a $31.8 million contract from the U.S.
Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command. Cubic said the five-year contract contains options which, if exercised, could bring the cumulative contract award to $92.7 million. Cubic's primary subcontractors include ViaSat and AMSEC, a business partnership between SAIC and Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding.
Cubic said the CDLS is a "dual system" package that includes two antennas and two data link electronics for each ship, allowing naval commanders to track aircraft from any location aboard vessel. It also provides 15 different waveforms that can be transmitted at top speed to nearly all variants of military aircraft.
