I read a report on importance of all the analytical tools some time ago.
Some 30% percent important was sector analysis, 20% market timing, the rest that I do not recall exactely was stock picking and everything else, stock timing i.e. systems. My conclusion was that one should use a combined approach. But this we are tought here from the beginning. Even if I feel market timing is a bit neglected on whole SI, I think if you get no buy signals or get stopped out you should be quite ok and know what is going on.
In general stocks with a positive beta move like the market. I do not know where to look up or how to calculate beta. A beta screen would be nice of course.
