No, it's not my position that those "who are living under despotism should remain there, it being a "cultural choice." I'm all for helping those who ask for help, who are able to accept help and who can benefit from it. I'm NOT for making that decision for them, forcing it upon them, ignoring their own choices, ignoring the fact that cultures and societies "grow" their way into advanced civilization as opposed to having it thrust upon them, and killing them for their own good. Hey, call me insensitive.
Ask yourself why, in Russian invaded Afghanistan, French occupied Sudan and Vietnam, and American occupied South Vietnam, the "local population" wasn't rushing out to fight and die for the form of government that had been selected for them and for which the occupying nation's young were dying for. While you're at it, ask yourself why there are demonstrations of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis shouting "Death to America, Death to Israel" instead of "Death to Al Queda, Death to the insurgents?" Then ask yourself how many Iraqis, who are not pulling down a salary for aiding the occupation, are fighting and dying for what we call "their freedom." there are certainly a few of them dying on the other side of that coin while the "local population" houses, hides and supports them. All this while the Shiites wait for us to leave so that they can establish a Muslim State with Shiite rule over other minorities.
There's a big difference between "helping" another sovereign state help itself, and usurping the sovereignty of another nation. You should not confuse the two. |
