Cary, AMAT is now selling a large percentage of 300mm
equipment and new process technology like Black Ice, copper
dep, Producer, etc...and I think the asking prices are
much higher than they were in 2000 which was primarily
dominated by 200mm equipment with a smattering of 300mm to
development/pilot line fabs. I'm now 4 years removed from
AMAT and the company dynamic is now much more streamlined
and efficient.. I think they've gotten rid of the
excessive management layers that were prevalent during the
90's. I count that as a positive toward earnings
potential, but they will need to further beef up their
manufacturing to meet an anticipated aggressive build cycle. When we see increasing manufacturing and
engineering jobs posted it means order backlog is increasing!! 8^)
