You didn't respond to this:

Do you think there should be laws against members of different races who fall in love marrying each other? Many people used to think that such laws "preserved standards." How about laws restricting who could engage in certain professions or trades or who could own land? Was it "preserving standards" when Jews weren't allowed to work the land? Was it "perserving standards" not so very long ago when Jews were admitted to colleges on a strict quota system? Many Ivy League college administrations thought so, so after they hit their ten per cent Jewish quota, they turned away brilliant Jews in favor of less brilliant gentiles. It was affirmative action for non-Jews.

And I notice that you signed your post this way:

lindybill@poundingyourpud.com

There was a time when pounding your pud was considered sinful and harmful to your health. It is a very good thing that young people who masturbate are no longer persuaded that they are evil and dirty, and that children are no longer (one hopes, at least, that it is rare) punished, even unto the occasional castration, for engaging in that natural practice.

Do you believe that those standards should be preserved?

My point in listing a number of "standards" that have prevailed in the past is that the "preservation of standards" per se that you advocate is valueless, unless the standard being preserved is worth preserving.
