Fortunately, the divisions within America are quickly healed when confronted with an external threat or extremism. This can be seen by the very high ratings the President had after 9/11. This can also be seen when extremists run for office, most politicians being fairly close to the middle, keeping their ardent right or left-wing supporters at bay.

So keep hoping for the day that the US will be torn apart. It won't happen. You'll be passing gas on sprouts in Belgium, but all the hot air won't matter.
