During that time I had a 6.5% mortgage of $21k on my house. I got a call from the S&L telling me I had enough money in a CD note to pay the loan off and save the 6.5%. It was a Jumbo CD paying 18%. I asked how much they'd knock off the principle and was told they didn't do that. I may be an idiot but not that much of an idiot.
