Thanks for your thoughts AmyJ.

Kerry favors providing a manufacturing jobs credit. (What about software?)

There is no real need to give a software jobs credit, the US software industry is already more competitive than asia with the most conservative study showing 10% fewer bugs in US created code. Some studies show 40% fewer bugs. Plus with the US media expertise etc, it is difficult to make a case for offshore software as superior. From a business standpoint, the free market has responded to the offshore software threat with open source which will probably deal a fatal blow to microsoft and oracle anyway. Open source commoditizes "coding" and puts all the value add onto implementation and service.

The biggest problem the US software industry has right now (I am including only open source and a few smaller companies as truly US), is federal government favoritism towards these huge offshore R&D firms. If the US government stopped awarding contracts to offshore software producers like IBM, MSFT and instead went with Linux that would take care of the problem.
