While Russert was on the NBC channel with the Prez, Face the Nation had an interview with Dean that few saw. I flicked over to CBS whenever NBC was running a commercial. From what I saw, Dean acquitted himself as well as could be expected - given the circumstances. A telling moment came when Dean said in passing, that Saddam was no threat. Schieffer stopped the program, and with a look of total incredulity asked, "Are you saying Saddam was no threat"?
It made me want to grab Schieffer by the lapels, get my face about three inches from his, and in my loudest voice shout, "THAT'S RIGHT, NO THREAT. Is there something about the two words no and threat that you don't understand"? Our system is set up such that we give a fair amount of deference to the fourth estate, but that has a price of responsibility. They are supposed to question, and keep honest, those in power. When a person has reached his level, and has by his questions and demeanor so bought the Admins party line (along with the hook and sinker), they have abrogated their raison d'etre. He's a shinning example of the Peter Principle having risen to his level of incompetence. It's time to ship him back to Texas where most still gullibly accept that Saddam was a threat.
Wake up Bob!
