Seems he's cast an occasional rare good vote. Looks like he flip-flopped on NMD in 1999:

Voted YES on deploying National Missile Defense ASAP.
Vote that the policy of the US is to deploy a National Missile Defense system capable of defending against limited ballistic missile attack as soon as it is technologically possible, and to seek continued negotiated reductions in Russian nuclear forces.
Bill S 257 ; vote number 1999-51 on Mar 17, 1999

Voted NO on deploying missile defense as soon as possible.
Vote to limit further debate and proceed to a bill that would require the U.S. to deploy as soon as possible an effective National Missile Defense system capable of defending against a limited ballistic missile attack.
Bill S 1873 ; vote number 1998-262 on Sep 9, 1998

I like the link to other Kerry positions: Strongly for abortion, affirmative action, gay civil rights (including gay marriage), against voluntary prayer in school, against abstinence education, for health care unless Republicans sponsor the bill, against school choice, vouchers, against the death penalty, against mandatory sentencing, against Bush tax cuts, favors taxing rich people like his wife, supports amnesty and welfare for illegal immigrants but against visas for skilled workers and farm workers (guess they should sneak in, go on welfare, and wait for the next amnesty), for expanded trade, against linking China and Vietnam trade to human rights and weapons sales, no on deploying NMD (hey, he flip-flopped back again), for foreign aid, for renewable energy, against oil drilling, against drug law enforcement, for welfare reform and allowing churches to provide welfare services
(a rare non-liberal position).

VoteMatch's conclusion: John Kerry is a Libertarian-Leaning Liberal. Not sure where they get the" libertarian-leaning" from - the quadrangle and his responses show him just a straight left-liberal.
