Premier Wen Jiabao chaired a forum yesterday to solicit opinions on the draft government work report from leaders of non-Communist parties and other public figures.
The draft government work report, which will be delivered to the forthcoming Second Session of the 10th National People's Congress, includes an analysis of the country's achievements, existing problems and proposed feasible guidelines for this year's tasks.
Participants approved of the basic framework and content of the report, but they also made specific suggestions for amendments to improve the government's economic and agricultural policies. They also discussed a range of other issues, including improvement of China's legal system.
At the meeting, Wen expressed his gratitude to participants for their suggestions and support for the government's work. He said the central government will study their opinions and proposals and incorporate them into the government work report.
Wen said the government has become more resolute than ever before in terms of sticking to and achieving goals.
"We must shift the government's focus to public administration and social services while strengthening its macro-economic control and supervision of the market," Wen said.
He added that the government expects more onerous tasks this year, as China's economic development is at a key stage that requires appropriate macro-economic regulation to ensure stable and continuous growth.
He also briefed the participants on the prevention and control work of bird flu at the meeting, and listened to their opinions and suggestions.
On Monday, Tuesday and last Friday, the premier chaired forums to solicit opinions from those working in the fields of science, education, culture, health and sports.
