All that was true in Nam. Kerry was not condemning the soldiers, he was condemning how out of control crazy and mad the war had become because it was based on lies and they never had a clear mission.

Bob Kerrey, a perfectly nice guy, now admits he was involved in an atrocity. One of John Kerry's boatman admits machine-gunning a teenager and justifying it because the teen was a threat who refused to obey orders. Neither were murderers. Both were heros. The war itself was the villain.

Consider also the CIA ran the Phoenix Program sending guys liike Bob Kerrey upriver to assassinate Vietnam villagers accused of being Cong. Accused of but not proven. The SEALS would slip in and gut them with knives, leaving them splayed open to terrorize the other villagers. Many times the targets were given to them by dishonest South Vietnamese and the targets were innocent. Madness.

You are totally misinterpreting what Kerry was saying in 1970. Kerry was saying "Look at the nightmare this has turned into. It's time to stop it.". No way he was saying "these soldiers need to be indicted". Just the opposite. His indictment was against the policy-makers at the top who were hiding all this from the American People and the war itself, what it had become. Nobody can argue that by 1970 the war was winnable or ethical or right. By then it was a nightmare. Good thing people like Kerry fought to end it.
