The talk of inflation has returned to the street, it has gained some momentum especially the solid growth witnessed in Q3 and Q4 GDP data. In 2003, Core CPI rose 1.1% and Mr. Greenspan’ favourite PCE rose by 0.8% registering the smallest gain in 45yrs. Inflation doesn’t depend on GDP, it depends on the excess capacity in the economy, I may be wrong here. But when 25% of the nation’ productive capacity is sitting idle and cheaper goods are coming in from places like China deflation is the dragon to be slain.
