Non-public economy booms in east China

JINAN, Feb. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- The non-public economic sector developed rapidly last year in east China's Shandong Province,contributing remarkably to the provincial GDP, according to an official with the provincial statistics bureau.

Shandong encourages the development of non-public enterprises through a series of favorable policies, said the official, and in 2003 they contributed 40 percent to the provincial GDP growth.

According to the bureau, the industrial output value of Shandong's private enterprises increased by 44.5 percent last year.

The investment from non-public sources amounted to 370.9 billion yuan (about 44.8 billion US dollars) last year, accountingfor 69.6 percent of Shandong's fixed assets investment.

In 2003, the export and import turnover of private enterprises totaled 2.8 billion US dollars, accounting for 6.2 percent of Shandong's total foreign trade value. Enditem
