They had Treasure of the Sierra Madre on television the other night .... such a classic, there is a lot in that one, even the movie, there is more in the book ..... far as i know, it's the only B. Traven story to be famous in the english speaking world, and that's amazing considering the quality of his writing .... also, considering that he was probably an englishman [or less likely, a german, there are academics of the linguistic persuasion who debate this, they look for clues in the translations, to see in which language he formed thought ..... he wrote largely in german, though, i think] ..... he wrote a story called Macario, about a campesino who wanted a whole turkey to eat all by himself, and got one, got a guest along with it .... very famous in the spanish speaking world, as a story of México .... he ended up a chiapaneco, had his ashes spread over San Cristóbal
Way behind on movies here, haven't even seen Salma Hayek's Frida yet ..... they brought it to local theatres for about a week, poof and it was gone, they didn't give it half a chance .... by all accounts it's well done and has substance .... a lot of that crap they call movies is pretty sad, imho, complete waste of time |
