Hi Alan. Thank you for your reply and thoughts.

I have run into our discussion many times as I have witnessed for Christ.

Just yesterday in my Sunday school class we were in study on angels and how the angel of the Lord smote the first born of Egypt or the angel of the Lord took the lives of 185,000 Assyrians in one night. It is hard to tell middle school kids about a God like this and then have them believe that God is loving and caring.

My explanation to them is that God is very protective over those that he loves and when he finds that some are trying to thwart His plans and if there are those that are enemies of His that are trying to harm the very ones that He loves then yes God has an angry side.

I don't know if that was sufficient for middle school kids but that is what I came up with.

At any rate getting back to your discussion of Pharaoh, everything makes perfect sense until you read that God is not a respecter of persons. My personal view is that no matter what the "age" or whomever is being approached or wooed by the Holy Spirit God gives no one an inside track or an advantage. It doesn't matter if someone was abused as a child or grew up with a silver spoon God gives everyone an equal chance.

Like debt. People don't work themselves out of debt they work themselves into debt. The same with God and pharoah. Pharaoh worked himself into a corner with God. I have been reading of how many times Moses approached pharoah and how many times Pharaoh changed his mind and how many times Pharaoh wanted time to think and how many times Pharaoh wanted treat Moses well and then changed his mind.

In the final analysis Pharaoh got what he deserved. God gave him ample opportunities and Pharaoh was a pretty smart guy. After all he was the ruler of the most powerful nation on earth at the time and had the best advisors and the best council and the smartest minds at his disposal.

Sorry but if he is burning in hell right now he does not get my sympathy. I say he got what was coming to him...In Christ....gregor
