<In 1970, Californians paid 14% of their incomes in state and local taxes; today, it's just 12%>
We pay a flat-tax, appr 20% in local taxes (handles local education, health care, plus police, courts, roads, etc, etc, even the local unemployed and unemployable)
For the higher income brackets the "federal" progressive tax sets in, as one can easily show that they earn their higher income from mostly "non-local" business. For example, higher education, etc, which is not available in any little village.
However, this is obviously not true if the local economy is based on an ability to compete with China, India, Pakistan, etc. How to save 0.2 cent on a $5 t-shirt..

Nothing really simple, much interesting stuff going on in EU as May 1st is arriving, when Poland will join. (40 millions, "our" baltic states are simpler)
On the other hand finland has this great neighbor russia (higher diffferences in basic statistics than even the US-Mexico border)
That is, I want to thank US and CA for making me aware of these basic facs of any life, prenatal and then health care, education, maybe more of it, somewhere to live, a productive job, some kids, and then a pension.
PS to my first sentence, the balance of the local economy and the wider "federal" economy is even more interesting. |
