I guess we're always sort of surprised when the wheel of time slowly turns and stocks get dumped for real assets.

My guess is that the people investing in stuff like cars are the leading edge. They may end up doing just fine, especially as compared with what would happen if they put it into bonds and stocks in the current pre-inflationary interest rate environment.
