Kenneth, the military spokesman's last statement on camera was virtually indistinguishable from the version he'd vehemently denied at the onset of the show. He still clung to the assertion that the family members in the truck had fired on the Americans but conceded that they found only 5 bodies and a wounded boy in the truck. No rifle and no shell casings were found. One of the dead was a pre-teen boy and there were a lot of dead chickens laying around. He first denied that they'd found a wounded boy even though the family was desperately searching for his body. He later confirmed that the boy was receiving medical care and the boy was reunited with his mother.

It was a tough thing to watch when the boy asked his mother where his little brother and father were and she broke down and couldn't tell him they were dead.

I wonder sometimes how we can harden ourselves to the things that happen to our own troops and to those that they mistakenly kill, all the while telling ourselves what hardships we've suffered when 9/11 happened. Can you imagine the life of that mother and that shot-up boy? Can you imagine the dreams of those soldiers that shot up that truck and then found chickens, two children and unarmed people inside of it, and then lied about it to cover themselves. That's the stuff of nightmares.
