Now Rumsfeld and Myers (Myers, incidentally, got moved into the top spot because his precedessor didn't agree with the Administration's war plans) are in a press conference saying they don't know whether or not the letter (referenced below) is authentic, or not.

Meanwhile, FOXnews and the GOPwinger radio threads are having a heyday exposing the contents of this letter as some sort of proof that Bush is right.
Now, just think for a moment. How could this letter possibly be authentic! Were it authentic the last thing this Administration should be doing is delivering the message to the enemy, and for the enemy, since the enemy couldn't deliver it themselves due to being captured and the supposed message intercepted.
The Bush Administration is going to extraordinary desperate measures to try and prove an Al Qaeda connection in Iraq, in effect, by publicly releasing the content of the letter, thus, virtually inviting the enemy to come into Iraq. Instead of "bring 'em on," we're now getting "here we are, come and get us!"
I mean is this any way to wage a war ... that is, if it is a war? More and more it looks like a plain old occupation, with a desperate need to find reasons to justify the occupation. |
