because in the past when the free trade/survival of the fittest dogma was adopted by neocons and other conservatives, they meant multinational corporate competition. So that would be some japanese company vs. some american company. Now, with the intersection of a few advances, these being the rise of China economically speaking (communist until about 95/96 and then asian flu in the late 90s), the internet facilitating global communications among others- free trade now means competing on a personal level for your job with some schmuck in china, with the benefits going to the top. Its great that the top executives happen to live in the US, but the problem is we need an economy that works for all not just 5 people. The economic disparity we are undergoing in this country for the first time based on the standard of living in the ROW makes this time different. The wealthy CEOs like these drug company people have more power than ever and are able to buy politicians to a much larger degree than before. Anyway no recovery this year I am quite certain, at least in the labor market.
