JF, I don't think it's self-serving, as many contributions are; at least I think it's based in political principle.

That all depends on what your definition of "self-serving" is. Most everyone who contributes to political campaigns have self-serving interests. That makes everyone a "special interest" in a sense. Some of these "special interests" obviously have more power than others, even disproportionately so.

That brings us to Soros. He wants to see his vision of a world economy and world order come to fruition, and he sees Bush as the antithesis of his vision. So he spends millions of dollars hoping to defeat Bush at his own game, even though his hypocrisy will probably make that game more firmly entrenched. But hey, what's wrong with a personal vendetta as long as Bush is defeated?

Looks like the "personality ethic" (tm. Stephen Covey) is taking hold.
