They can't do the "right thing" now because of politics. A financial crisis has to happen first. By that time, things will be too far gone. The younger generation will not stand for the massive taxes it would take pay all of the promised benefits. I can take steps to profit from future inflation. I can move out of the U.S. if taxes get too high here. Who is going to "force me" to "clean up the mess"?
