What about the dependance on foreign capital?

At least two downsides to this. Interest rates can be influenced by external countries - eg. a threat to withdraw bonds can force rates higher.

Wealth is "exported". eg. with the current trade US wealth is exported in the amount of the deficit. At the current 4% per annum that will reduce the standard of living in the US signifigantly over time.
