Chris, from your previous posts - I notice you say we should be "buying American".
That's not exactly what I said. What I said is that people who complain about the loss of American jobs should be buying American. I see it as hypocrisy when a person goes to a rally to complain about how Bush has lost American jobs, then drives home from the rally in their Volvo, wearing their shirt made in Malaysia and shoes made in Italy, drinking Perrier, chatting on their Nokia cell phone, while their wife prepares dinner of imported cheese, imported pasta, French wine, etc.
There is a basic disconnect some people have between their buying habits and the state of the economy. Our economy is largely consumer driven. The consumers control to a significant extent how many jobs remain in America and how many move overseas.
If people want to buy foreign goods, that's fine. But then don't whine about how America is losing jobs.
I will say that our family (including adult children) owns four vehicles and all four are American -- my daughters drive a Ford Taurus, my wife drives a Chrysler minivan, my son drives a Dodge Ram pickup, and I drive a Ford F-150. (We have three computers in the house, all American made). So we're doing our part to keep Americans working.
So I get to whine about lost jobs if I want to. But anybody who drives a foreign car, or buys a lot of foreign foods, wines, etc. -- and IME that group includes many of the most vocal liberals -- doesn't.
It's called not being hypocritical. |
